Round table dedicated to the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Political Repression

On May 31, a round table dedicated to the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Political Repressions was held at the Kostanay Polytechnic Higher College for 1st  year students.

The purpose of the event was to form the patriotic consciousness of students, an active life position, foster a sense of compassion, a humane attitude towards people who died from repression.

May 31 is a sad date that embodies one of the most tragic pages in the history of our country.

The event began with a “minute of silence”. During the round table, students spoke about the activities of the camps for the repressed, deportation and dispossession of the “unreliable”. The speakers told that from 1920 to 53 years more than 100 thousand people were convicted in Kazakhstan alone, the capital punishment – execution – was applied to 25 thousand. In fact, a whole generation of the Kazakh intelligentsia, who defended their interests, was destroyed. Millions of people have passed through the camps.

Such events are important for the formation of patriotic consciousness. It is important for the young generation to know what our ancestors had to go through, what suffering they had to go through in order to preserve peace, harmony and unity in the future. This historic day evokes not only grief, but also pride in the solidarity and achievements of the Kazakh people.
