On February 25, 2021, within the framework of the subject decade of the Department of Social and Humanitarian Disciplines, a demonstrative debate “Battle of Gladiators” on anti-corruption topics was held in order to form an anti-corruption worldview among students and foster a negative attitude towards corruption. The debates were organized online on the Big Blue Button platform.

An unusual format was chosen for the event, namely a show tournament, during which two experienced speakers broadcast their oratory and debate experience. Experienced debaters, prize-winners of city, republican and international tournaments, Starkova Anastasia (KPHC) and Yakovenko Stas (KRU named after A. Baitursynov) tried to give not only a general idea of various forms of corruption, the peculiarities of its manifestation in various spheres of life, reasons, but also harmful consequences of this phenomenon.

Participants of the college debate club “Heirs”, first-year students interested in the debate movement, and college teachers followed the course of the debate. A teacher of special disciplines and a certified trainer in debating skills Karamurzin Rauan Mukhamedkalievich headed the referee commission. A teacher-organizer Anastasia Vyacheslavovna Pushkareva monitored the observance of the rules and regulations of the debates.

After the speakers’ speeches, college students could ask their questions, get advice from experienced debate speakers, learn how to deal with the fear of public speaking.

As a result, the judges unanimously gave the victory to Yakovenko Stas (KRU), but we do not forget that the motivation of anti-corruption behavior that college students received is much more important than the outcome of the debate.

We hope for the further successful functioning of the debate club “Heirs” on the basis of the Kostanay Polytechnic Higher College and wish all the participants of the event success in all their endeavors!
