Round table on «Honesty is the best policy!» and the problem of corruption: an analysis through the prism of role—playing games

On February 4, 2025, a round table was held at the college on the topic «Honesty is the best policy!» in the context of the fight against corruption.

The main topic of discussion was the existence and spread of corruption as one of the main threats to the functioning of democratic institutions. The participants note that corruption is not only a moral, but also an economic problem that destroys citizens’ trust in government structures. According to numerous studies, societies with high levels of corruption experience a decrease in the quality of life, an increase in social inequality, and a decrease in economic activity.

Special attention was paid to the practice of developing an anti-corruption policy, which requires an integrated approach that includes the development of civic awareness.

An interesting aspect of the discussion was the involvement of role-playing games in the analysis of the corruption situation. In role-playing games, participants play as characters who face moral dilemmas such as corruption. An example is a role-playing simulator in which players must decide how to respond to a bribe offer or how to manage resources while avoiding corruption schemes.

Also, many participants of the round table noted that in order to defeat corruption, it is necessary not only to combat bribery, but also to develop a culture of honesty. Honesty, as a key value, should become the basis for all actions of civil servants, businessmen and ordinary citizens.

Recognizing honesty as the best policy means not only rejecting corruption schemes, but also a willingness to work for results, regardless of possible personal benefits.

At the conclusion of the round table on «Honesty is the best policy!», an important conclusion was that honesty should become not only a personal, but also a social value. Educational and gaming practices, including role-playing games, can play a significant role in fostering responsible attitudes towards government and society, as well as in shaping an anti-corruption culture among future generations.

The information was prepared by: the head of the «Sanaly urpaq» club – Leysan Filaridovna Shektybayeva, and the KDM inspector – Bibigul Yerikkyzy Aitpayeva.
