On January 14, 2026, a meeting titled “My Parents Don’t Understand Me” was held at the Kostanay Polytechnic Higher College. The event was organized under the leadership of the “Biz Birgemiz” volunteer movement.
The meeting was attended by 15 students who are active members of the “Biz Birgemiz” psychological volunteering group. The primary goal of the session was to teach students methods for effective communication with parents and to uncover the root causes of family misunderstandings. During the training, participants worked together to analyze the nature of family conflicts and grievances.
The students identified several key reasons that hinder family harmony:
- The generation gap and conflicting views on life.
- Communication deficits and a lack of time for one another.
- An inability to correctly express emotions and feelings.
The event went beyond theoretical discussion and moved into practical exercises. Special attention was given to the “I-message” technique. Students practiced expressing their feelings in a cultured manner without resorting to accusing the other person. For example, instead of the accusatory “You never listen to me!”, participants learned to say: “I feel sad when I am not heard”. It was demonstrated that such an approach significantly improves the interpersonal climate.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the students reached the consensus that an open dialogue based on mutual respect is the most important condition for trusting relationships within a family. Such sessions contribute to the development of emotional culture among youth and the strengthening of family values.
