As part of crime prevention and legal literacy efforts for young people, Kostanay Polytechnic Higher College held important mentoring sessions on the topic “The Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan.” The main goal of the sessions was to explain to students that personal freedom is always inextricably linked with responsibility to the law and society.

During the sessions, group leaders provided a detailed analysis of articles of the Criminal and Administrative Codes of the Republic of Kazakhstan, focusing on the most pressing issues for adolescents and young people:

The penalties for using obscene language in public places (Article 434 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Republic of Kazakhstan, “Petty Hooliganism”) were explained. Students learned that the use of obscene language carries significant fines and administrative arrest.

The consequences of crimes such as extortion, theft, and robbery were discussed in detail. The mentors emphasized that any pressure on peers for the purpose of obtaining money or things is a criminal offense that leaves a lifelong mark.

Particular attention was paid to the responsibility for knowingly making false calls to emergency services. Students were reminded that such actions not only result in huge fines for parents but also distract emergency services from providing genuine assistance to those in danger.

Issues of ensuring sexual integrity were also discussed. The mentors emphasized the importance of maintaining personal boundaries and treating each person with respect, as well as the severe penalties for infringements on personal freedom and dignity.

During the discussion, the students concluded that legal awareness is not simply knowing prohibitions, but the ability to make the right choices in difficult situations.

The mentored hours concluded with an interactive Q&A session, where students were able to receive clarification on specific legal situations and learn where to seek help if their rights are violated.
