Stress art therapy: “Drawing stress”

On November 12, 2025, a meeting of the psychological club “Freud’s Children” was held at the Kostanay Polytechnic Higher College in the format of an art-therapeutic session on the topic “Drawing stress: art therapy, discussion of drawings.”

The purpose of this event is to realize the external and internal image of stress, to obtain emotional release through art and to form a calmer attitude to tension.

The event was attended by students – active participants in the psychological club “Freud’s Children” 15 people.

The session began with the exercise “Stress – what does it taste/color/smell like?,” Which set the participants up for visualization. The main part was devoted to practical work. As part of the main art exercise, “My Stress,” students used gouache to depict stress as a living being, object, or abstract form.

The culmination was the Stress Transformation exercise, where students symbolically reworked their tension by turning painted figures into something neutral or resource-based (finishing wings, brightening colors, or turning a “monster” into a helper). This process has been key to reducing anxiety.

At the end of the event, participants shared one small action to take care of themselves as part of the final method “How can I help myself?”
