Programmer’s Day at Kostanay Polytechnic College

On September 12, 2024, Kostanay Polytechnic Higher College celebrated Programmer’s Day for the first time, which is celebrated on the 256th day of the year. The number 256 is considered almost sacred in programming: it is the maximum number of elements that can be encoded using 8 bits. In the binary system, 256 = 2 ^ 8, where 2 is the base of the number system, and 8 is the number of bits in a byte.

The goal of the event is to promote the creative development of students in the field of information and communication technologies and stimulate interest in IT professions. The participants of the holiday were first-year students of the Software specialty and the Applied Bachelor’s degree.

As part of the event, an intellectual quiz “Own Game” was held, in which students demonstrated their knowledge of the history of computer science, information technology, logical thinking and problem solving. The first place with 350 points was taken by the team of the first group PO-8, the second place with 290 points was taken by the first team of the group PO-9, and the third place with 260 points was taken by the second team of the group PO-9.

The startup project competition brought together teams of first-year students of “Software” in both Russian and Kazakh languages. The competition was attended by 5 teams from group 1PO-9 and 5 teams from group 1PO-8. The jury, consisting of Maira Malikovna Uaisova and Dulat Dyusenbekovich Keneshov, evaluated the projects according to the criteria of idea and innovation, relevance and market need, as well as the product.

The following startup ideas became winners:

1. The “Adamdarga komek” project is a system with a sensor built into clothing for people with visual impairments. The sensor detects obstacles and objects on the way, and also helps when crossing at a traffic light. 2. The SKILL SHFERE project is a marketplace for freelancers, where they can post their services, and entrepreneurs and organizations can order software development.

3. The RoentGen 2D project is a two-dimensional game engine with a neural network assistant, designed to train novice programmers in school centers and higher education institutions.

There was also an IT Fashion Designer competition, in which participants demonstrated images with IT elements: T-shirts with program codes, pockets with images of disks and flash drives. The prize places in this competition were taken by:

1. Mukhamedzyanov Rustam, 1st year student of the PO-9 group

2. Dukhonin Nikita, 1st year student of the PO-9 group

3. Safikanov Ruslan, 1st year student of the PO-9 group

All winners were awarded diplomas and commemorative statuettes of the college. Congratulations to the winners and we wish you further success!
