“From mockups to reality: students of the Electrical Engineering department demonstrated engineering projects”

On January 15, 2025, the grand opening of the year of working professions ” Honest work-honest income ” was held at the Kostanay Polytechnic Higher College.

Teachers and students of the Electrical Engineering department actively participated in its organization. During the event, an exhibition of working models made by students was held.

The projects presented at the exhibition cover the following key specialties:

• 07140100 “Automation and control of technological processes”;

• 07130200 “Power supply”;

• 07130700 “Maintenance, repair and operation of electromechanical equipment”.

      One of the most striking projects was the “Implementation of a wind power plant (wind turbine) into the existing electrical infrastructure” model. In the context of modern environmental challenges, when the role of fossil energy sources is decreasing, the use of wind energy is becoming increasingly relevant. The project involves the integration of wind turbines into existing energy systems, which allows not only to reduce the carbon footprint, but also to increase the energy security of the region. Wind turbines will be used to generate electricity with the possibility of storage and further use, which helps to significantly reduce operating costs.

       A Smart Home model was also presented. This project demonstrates the capabilities of modern automation systems to enhance comfort, safety and energy efficiency. The model of the nine-storey building is equipped with motion sensors that regulate the illumination in the rooms, as well as a system that works through a mobile application.

      In addition, the students demonstrated an elevator model that simulates the operation of a lifting mechanism and a control system. The elevator model was created as part of the WorldSkills Kostanay 2020 competition and helps to visually demonstrate the operation of the elevator, including controlling the lifting of the cabin, stopping on floors and opening doors. This model is also used to teach students how to program industrial controllers.

        The pupils, who attended the event had the opportunity to get acquainted with the basics of various technical specialties, learn about the demand for professions in the labor market and career prospects. During the event, participants could not only watch the demonstration of projects, but also ask questions to students, teachers and specialists.

        The presented projects clearly showed how modern technologies are applied in real life, and communication with teachers and college students gave schoolchildren the opportunity to take a more conscious approach to choosing their future profession. The organizers of the event noted the importance of such meetings aimed at career guidance and attracting young people to technical and engineering specialties. In the future, it is planned to continue such events to maintain the interest of young people in relevant and sought-after industries.
