In modern society, the problem of mutual understanding between parents and adolescents is becoming increasingly relevant. The phrase “my parents don’t understand me” more and more often reflects a lack of trusting communication and differences in views between generations. In response to this challenge, a family club entitled “Upbringing Without Punishment. My Parents Don’t Understand Me” was organized at the Electrical Engineering Department of the Kostanay Polytechnic Higher College. The event was aimed at fostering a culture of non-violent, respectful and conscious interaction within the family.

The purpose of the event was to demonstrate effective ways of communicating with adolescents without using punishment, as well as to teach parents the skills of constructive dialogue in difficult educational situations.

During the meeting, parents took part in an express survey “My Style of Communication with My Student”, which helped them to reflect on their own parenting strategies. Within the framework of the training “The Cause, Not the Misdeed”, participants learned to recognize the underlying motives of adolescents’ behavior and to choose constructive and supportive responses. The exercise “Hear Me” was aimed at developing skills of emotional response to typical statements made by children, while the role-playing activity made it possible to model real conflict situations and practice constructive ways of resolving them.

The event concluded with a summary of the results and a discussion of practical recommendations, such as using dialogue more often, talking about one’s own feelings, showing understanding, and remembering that the personal example of adults is the foundation of upbringing. The family club helped to strengthen trusting relationships between parents and adolescents and contributed to the development of a conscious, respectful and humane approach to parenting.
